About the event
Incredible plot twists, symbolism, and moral lessons found in mythologies—as well as all kinds of other stories—have long sparked the creativity of composers. Karol Szymanowski was inspired by the former when composing Mythes, a work in three movements, each depicting a scene from Greek mythology. Aulis Sallinen, in turn, found inspiration in Vladimir Nabokov’s novel The Real Life of Sebastian Knight. Even memories evoked by geographical locations can be transformed into music, as in composer Leevi Räsänen’s hometown of Enonkoski in his piece the two childhoods.
